I was just talking with our girls the other day about how this time of year is a good reminder to look at all that we have to be thankful for and to remember what is most important. As we celebrate Thanksgiving next week and usher in the Christmas season, my desire is to remember for myself and teach our kiddos that it is more blessed to give than receive. There are so many amazing places to give this season, but we thought we’d share our top 3 ways to get involved for those of you who are looking to give HOPE to families facing medical adversity this season:
The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities is simple: to provide a place for families who have children admitted to the local hospital to stay at little or no cost. One of our local Ronald McDonald houses is undergoing renovations and should be ready to welcome families within the next month. They have an Amazon wishlist here that you can purchase from to help stock the house with everything needed to serve the families staying there. When you are doing your online Christmas shopping, add an item or two from their list, too! Parents, you can also use this as an opportunity for your children to earn money to give towards Ronald McDonald House or Lighthouse Family Retreats (see below!).
If you are looking for an organization to send your year-end donation to, we love Lighthouse Family Retreats. Lighthouse Family Retreats serves families living through childhood cancer by creating environments on seaside retreats where they can rest, restore relationships, experience joy and find hope in God. Since their first retreat in 2000, they have provided free retreats to over 1,000 families living through childhood cancer. To help send more families on a Lighthouse retreat, click here to give.
As you go through this advent season, remember those families who may be experiencing a very different Christmas than they expected. Lift up families facing medical adversity, loss, and the medical professionals who work so hard to care for these families. As you pray, you can write a note of encouragement to send to the family or give them a call to let them know they are loved and supported.
Whichever way you choose to get involved this Christmas, our prayer is for YOU to be filled with the Lord’s blessings and HOPE!
