In Encouragement

Person with teal headphones | Songs of Hope | Whatever Comes by Rend Collective with Lyrics

Walking through medical challenges with children brings a world of emotions and tests the limits of strength and faith. Sometimes the challenges are physical tests with little sleep or middle-of-the-night interruptions. Sometimes the challenges are mental where seemingly impossible decisions must be made. Other times the challenges are emotional when we don’t know what to feel or say. And if we’re honest, some of the challenges test our faith.

Big questions come up like, “How can a good God let this happen?” or “Why my child?” or “Where are you God?” Or maybe, “I thought we were past this?”

In the midst of these limit-testing circumstances and questions, there’s hope. Not in some tidy answer or some generic statement. Our hope is in a very intimate and real person. Jesus.

Our hope is in the fact that Jesus walked on the earth, breathed our air, touched our humanity, and experienced our emotions. He’s not some far-off God that looks down every once in awhile. He gave us His very Spirit to comfort, lead, encourage, and provide for our needs. Right now.

One of the things I love about music is the way it opens our souls to be encouraged and touched by the Holy Spirit. “Whatever Comes” by Rend Collective is one of those songs that’s really more of a worship-filled prayer. It’s filled with promises to cling to and truth that is food for our souls. It’s a song that puts beautiful lyrics and melody behind the prayers that I’ve needed to pray, but didn’t always have the words for.

There’s something else special about this song, though, that you might not expect. It’s the way it works together with very next song on the album to leave you in a place of expectant hope. Once you’ve listened to “Whatever Comes,” let the rhythm and lyrics of “Joy of the Lord” lift your faith and strengthen hope in your heart.

Whatever Comes [Lyrics]

by Rend Collective

Lord, whatever comes
Make me steadfast, make me rooted
A cedar planted firm, deeply grounded in Your goodness
Whatever comes

Lord, whatever comes
Be my bedrock, keep me steady
Loyal to Your throne, whatever stands against me
Whatever comes

Be my bravery when I am trembling
Be my courage when my heart is caving in
Be the fireside when I am wandering
Be my Father, whatever comes

Lord, whatever comes
Be my soul, be strong as iron
Bending only when, when I kneel before the “I Am”
Whatever comes

Be my bravery when I am trembling
Be my courage when my heart is caving in
Be the fireside when I am wandering
Be my Father, whatever comes

Whatever comes, oh
Whatever comes

Joy of the Lord [Lyrics]

by Rend Collective

Though tears may fall
My song will rise, my song will rise to You
Though my heart may fail
My song will rise, my song will rise to You
While there’s breath in my lungs
I will praise You, Lord

In the dead of night
I’ll lift my eyes, I’ll lift my eyes to You
When the waters rise
I’ll lift my eyes, I’ll lift my eyes to You
While there’s hope in my heart
I will praise You, Lord

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

When I cannot see You with my eyes
Let faith arise to You
When I cannot feel Your hand in mine
Let faith arise to You
God of mercy and love
I will praise You, Lord

Oh You shine with glory Lord of light
I feel alive with You
In Your presence now I come alive
I am alive with You
There is strength when I say
I will praise You, Lord

The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

When sorrow comes my way
You are the shield around me
Always You remain
Like courage in the fight

I hear You call my name
Jesus, I am coming
Walking on the waves
Reaching for Your light
