A Prayer During the Pandemic

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been heavy on our hearts. Earlier this week, I shared about how the Lord is helping us to take heart in this season. We’ve been praying through the events of recent weeks, but we wanted to share a prayer that we’ve specifically been praying for our community along with some scripture that has been helping us renew our minds with truth.

A Prayer During COVID-19

Lord,

Our days are no longer filled with familiar greetings between friends, and it seems that many of the earthly things that we have looked to for security are shaky. Our hearts are breaking as we see the scope of the loss and how this situation is impacting our world.

Fear, worry, and grief that come with the unknown future can feel overwhelming.

Be near.

As our earthly securities are removed, we find that you are our true source of security. In you we have
Protection.
Provision.
Peace.

Give wisdom and unity to the leaders who are making decisions and to healthcare workers who are serving on the front lines.

Protect our bodies, yes, but also protect our hearts and our minds. Give us your wisdom and your truth to rest in during these days.

Provide for those who have lost much, and meet those in grief with a peace that is beyond comprehension.

Exchange the anxiety we’re facing with a renewed sense of awe and wonder and worship to you.

Bring your peace to worried and broken hearts. Help us to anchor our hope to Jesus, his finished work on the cross, and the promises that we have in your word.

Thank you for meeting us in our times of fear and uncertainty. Thank you for your faithful character we can rely on. Thank you for the invitation to find rest and peace in your name.

Amen.

Scripture to Encourage Your Heart

John 16:33

“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’’”
John 7:37-38

“So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.”
Exodus 10:22-23

“For You light my lamp; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.”
