A Resource for Husbands: Prayers for Your Wife and Marriage
As a dad, there are so many things I want to share with my girls. From oil changes to games to food to fixing things around the house, I love the way they light up with learning and discovering new things. Recently I had both of them looking under the car with me while I was changing the oil, showing them how to spot the oil filter and drain plug.
I haven’t gotten them to get their hands greasy yet, but their day is coming.
There’s something fulfilling about equipping them with practical skills for life and introducing them to new and fun things to enjoy. But there’s another critical thing I want to model for my girls – what it means to serve and pray. Especially in the most critical relationships in life.
I have by no means arrived when it comes to serving others and prayer life, but the people in my life who have impacted me the most have consistently put others before themselves and seemed to have a remarkably close connection to God. I’ve been forever changed by the difference – sometimes from a distance – that these people have made.
As I think about how to put this into practice in my life, I can’t think of a more important place to focus than my marriage. So, where to begin? Daily praying for my wife.

Praying for Your Wife: A Beautiful Way to Serve
My overall hope is that the girls will see Jesus working in our marriage. My desire is that they will grow up with a healthy picture of love, partnership, forgiveness, and support in the context of marriage. And I hope that God will give me the grace and humility to lead out of a place of service.
Obviously, the girls won’t see or even realize many of the times that I pray for Mary Beth or for them, but I believe that they will see the fruit of God’s working on my heart.
Husbands and dads, I believe that God is eager to listen to and answer our prayers to help us lead our spouse and family in prayer and service. I simply can’t think of a more impactful and beautiful way to love and serve your bride.
Even if you’re in a place where the state of your marriage is facing difficulty because of the stresses you’re facing, God still wants to engage your heart and give ways to pray truth, freedom, peace, and love over your spouse.

A few months ago God gave me the idea of journaling my prayers for Mary Beth and sharing the Bible verses and prayers with the helloHOPE community. The time of declaring truths over Mary Beth and thoughtfully considering how God wanted me to pray for her with was a humbling and growing experience.
On the other side of this season of prayer, I felt like God had given me a new picture of the power of prayer and the importance of caring for our marriage.
We decided to release these prayers as the 30-Day Husband Prayer Challenge, a daily email for husbands that want to begin praying for their wives, who want to pray more consistently, or who already pray for their wives and are looking for a guide to go deeper.
My hope is that this experience will be an encouragement and source of strength for your marriage. And, in addition to all of the practical things your children learn from you about how life works, I hope that they see a strong and vibrant picture of what it means to have a prayer-centered marriage.
