Light Will Always Prevail
One of my favorite themes in scripture is the Lord being our light in the darkness. This won’t be the last time you hear about this topic from me because, as is often the case, the truths that resonate most deeply with us are those that we have learned through experience.
We all share the experience of walking through darkness at some point, as it is a part of the world in which we live. What makes the truth of Christ’s light so beautiful is that the darkness cannot hide from it. Whatever the darkness is, light will always prevail. One of the amazing things about God in His bigness is that His power over darkness can look different for different people. What it has meant for me is that His presence with me, in me, and around me has brought me more of Him. And there is no darkness in Him. As we live in the light of His presence, He fights the darkness for us.
It’s been amazing to watch the Lord bring verses on this very topic to me through different seasons. In years past, Psalm 18:28 (For You light my lamp; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.) was my anchor through some painful experiences. I recently stumbled upon this verse and am loving meditating on and memorizing it:
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
He will not fear bad news;
His heart is confident,
trusting in the Lord.
Psalm 112:4, 7
These words resonated with me the moment I read them. My heart’s desires written on the pages of Scripture. Don’t you love when that happens? It describes exactly what I want to be...filled with light and, as a result, light to dark places, full of grace to all, compassionate, and following in the paths of righteousness. No fear. (I sometimes repeat this phrase when I’m saying this over again in my mind.) No fear. Confident faith and trust in the Lord’s promises. Yes and yes!
